17-09 Shrekhornhutte

The cable car up to Pfingstegg

Its hardly worth the bother as it only saves a 350 M climb

The trail to Stieregg

Don't worry there is a fence

Grindelwald and one of those mighty shadows

The trail was also sometimes in shade

Ostegg (2710 M) the low end of the ridge leading up the Eiger.

The final part of the trail

Where there is this sign. Doesn't sound too bad.

And initially it wasn't with some great views of the Obers Ischmeer

A nice and easy path

But what about that cliff?

Now where does that path go?

Then we see this sign

Avalanche on the glacier

Glaciers across the valley

Its follow the chain time, you may not know where to put your feet but you sure know what to do with your hands.

One of the numerous waterfalls

You get pretty close to the ice.

That avalanche from above

Time to hang on again

Beware of the blue and white stripes

But the view at the end was superb

The Shreckhorn hut at 2,529 M

Presumably Agassizhorn 3,946 M and Finsteraarhorn 4,273.9 M on the left

Some rather cracked ice.

Looking back to Grindelwald

More ice under stress

Big cracks

Heading back

A real mountaineer ahead of me.

The ropes are clue where the trail is supposed to be.

Nice having some cables to stop you slipping over the edge.

Now who left that ladder here?

Another case of where do I put my feet?

Another abandoned ladder.

A bit narrow here but at least you can the path.

There were poles to guide me across the rock slide area.

Quite a big gully

But not as big as this one the restaurant is on the right

Arty photo.
